About Studio Noir
My name is James Black, I am a college student at New College Lanarkshire currently doing my HNC Sound Production course. I am extremely passionate about learning music production skills, and I hope to work as a sound engineer in the future
This artifact highlights my ability to take a video and recreate it from scratch, using foley audio, voice over, synchronisation skills, and my ability to create and edit over a video. It also signifies the skills I have when using Ableton, such as my ability to use different effects both creatively and correctively whilst also highlighting my ability to create sounds that accurately match what is happening on screen and not sound or "look" out of place
This project showcases my ability to record live sound and my ability to mix. It highlights my ability to competently use Pro Tools to a high standard. It showcases my skills to use different effects, mixing techniques, stereo and mono mic techniques and my ability to work in a group and collaborate with musicians and other sound engineers.
This was my first ever project on Ableton and the was also the first time I have ever used Ableton as before doing my HNC I had only ever used Cubase. Although initially out of my depth, it was the perfect first project as it helped me learn the key fundamentals very quickly. It boosted my sound designing skills as I had only had experience from high school, and has helped me come a long way in terms of abilities with Ableton and ProTools
