Learning
Audio for Multimedia was a very easy thing for me to pick up as during my course of Highschool, was all I did, it was my bread and butter and so when it came to doing this module I knew all the key fundamentals and exactly what to do.
When being introduced to this module we were set different tasks to do with the different types of Diegetic sound; a sound that moves the plot of the story forward. this type of sound is always coming from within the world of the story. Non-Diegetic, a sound that comes from outside the world, for example, the film score, this is because it is unheard by characters in a movie and only the audience. Sound Motif which is a noise or song that is connected to a place or a character just like Darth Vader. Synchresis, this is the combination of two different words - synchronicity and synthesis. The overall idea here being that if two sounds play together, you assume that the two are related, even though the reality of the situation might seem odd or even funny. Point of Audition, this is where a piece of audio is coming from a sound source, for example a set of earphones a character is wearing that then stops when the earphones are taken off. Sound Advance, this is closely mirrored to the idea of a sound bridge - giving us the sound of a new scene before the picture completes the transition. This separates sound and image before the next scene. Empathetic or Anempathetic is sound or maybe more commonly music that either matches or is at odds with the visual narrative.
Choosing my clip
When choosing my clip, I had looked mainly at clips from the movie "Tale of Despereaux" a movie about a mouse in France with the dream of becoming a great adventurer, however, due to an enormous amount of vocal work that would need to be done, although I was confident in myself, would've posed a serious challenge. Then I stumbled upon a clip from the 2004 SpongeBob movie, and I loved it. The comedy, the mix of vocals and action, it was perfect.
Recreating the clip
I got to work on my padlet, this was the first thing that was needed to be completed before carrying out with recreating this clip. A padlet is just a short detailed miniwebsite showing what clip I chose, what inspired me to choose it, and the steps I would've planned to take to complete it.
I took a lot of steps to complete this, starting with writing all the pre-existing sounds and voice lines, however, when starting to recreate the clip, I started with voice lines. I always start with voice lines as it takes the least amount of time and takes into account the chances of poor audio quality if recorded on different days. Once these were done, I moved onto foley sounds, and gathering audio for pre-existing sounds on SoundQ
The Challenge
A challenge I faced with this piece was the voice acting, I struggled to capture the overall tone of SpongeBob and Squidward but after a while with this challenge, I believe I succeeded
